News for May 2017

Weekend Racing update:

Well done to all that took part in the various events this weekend past. Congratulations to Mary Corless who was 2nd in her age group in the Joey Hannon olympic distance triathlon and all others that raced. Well done to those that cycled in the WLAC event, especially to the new beginners that conquered the 100km distance , a great achievement for those new to cycling. Well done also to those that ran in the half/full/ultra Connemarathon. It was a busy weekend for all club members!

Club Gear Update:

Our vendor Shadow has informed us that our the club gear will be available at the end of this week.A mail will be sent out when the gear arrives.

Ride Leader Course:

Please add your name to the doodle poll if you are interested in doing a Ride Leader course with Cycling Ireland. The club will arrange a date for the course if there is enough people interested. GTC would cover the cost for those participating - this is highly recommended and will help make our group cycles safe and develop a policy and practice for safer cycling for all members.

GTC Triathlon Club Series:

The GTC triathlon club series is back by popular demand. This will be aligned to the National Series that Triathlon Ireland to encourage as many members as possible to engage in the National Series.The TI National Series require that you race 4 races. One of which must be a Sprint distance and one that must be an Olympic distance.Our GTC Club Series is similar. You must race 4 races. One of which must be a sprint distance and one of which must be an Olympic distance. We will calculate the top winners male and female.For the series we have included a range of races, some local and some long. There will be a presentation of prizes at the end of season for our top GTC club series and those who also come top for our club in the TI National Series. Females at National Series Level

Also we would like to make a special effort this year to get as many females racing at National Series level as possible. Vodafone National Series require that you race 4 races. One of which must be a Sprint distance and one that must be an Olympic distance. So email us and let us know if you are interested and we will try to support you as best we can maybe even setting up a group so people can train together. If you are clever with the races you pick you can enter both the GTC club series and National Series.

Summer Sea Swims:

It’s nearly that time of year again when the brave and the hardy take their first steps into the wild Atlantic Ocean after a long winter. Some of our members have already taken the plunge.To ensure the continuing success of the weekly sea swim, we are looking for volunteer kayakers. Your help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yoga training with free class for GTC members:

TriHeros - Volunteers needed!

TriHeros is a programme being held in four local schools with a duathlon event to be held in Southpark in conjunction with Galway Triathlon Club on May 12th at 3pm. If you are available to help out on the day as a marshal or with race set up please email
