The launch of Galway Triathlon Club’s Junior Section took place last night (Wednesday) in the Salthill Hotel following a training session in Grattan Beach with fellow Junior triathletes from neighbouring Loughrea based Predator Triathlon Club. It was a wet and wild night but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the young athletes, their coaches or their parents. The 29 new junior members of Galway Triathlon Club all received their gear bags and hoodies as part of their membership of the club after a brief presentation in the Hotel by Joanne Murphy, Club Chaiperson, Tony Daley, Vice President of Triathlon Ireland and Noel Carrick Junior Club Chairperson.
The Junior Section of the club is a welcome addition to the already 300+ adult membership of Galway Triathlon Club, one of the largest clubs in the country. The enthusiasm, energy and excitement around the launch from coaches, parents and young athletes alike was infectious. Many of these Junior athletes aged 8 -16 years of age have already had a great start to their season and it is hoped that some of the silverware for the National Junior Aquathon Championhips in Salthill on July 11th will be staying in Galway with our home grown athletes vying for National Titles in their agegroups on the day.
