Triathlon Chonamara: Race Full!!

Aquathon: Tuesday - See details on site for dates across the entire summer

Swimming: Monday AM - Advanced swimming session Leisureland (March - June) (FULL)

Swimming: Tuesday PM - Intermediate swimming session Leisureland (March - June)

Swimming: Thursday 6:30 p.m. - Sea swim at Blackrock, followed by long slow run

Running: Tuesday - GTC Track sessions start 15th January, 6:30pm sharp at Dangan Track, running weekly until the season end.

Running: Thursday - 7:30 p.m. Long slow distance (11km approx 1hr 10 min) after swim in Blackrock

Cycling: Sunday - West Coast Wheelers - 9 AM Galway Catherdal 3/4 hours (moderate pace)

Cycling: Saturday - West Coast Wheelers - 9 AM Galway Catherdal 2/3 hours (fast)

GTC aquathon series 2008 ** EXTRA RACES **

 Due to demand, the aquathon series will go weekly for the remainder of the season. Thus the remaining races are:

  • Tue Aug 19th (new)
  • Tue Aug 26th
  • Tue Sep 2nd (new)
  • Tue Sep 9th
  • Tue Sep 16th (light dependent)
  • Saturday 20th Sept Handicap race

 The annual season handicap race has been changed to Saturday 20th September due to Loughrea Tri on the previous weekend which is attracting a big GTC turnout.

GTC aquathon series 2008 Race 4

 Well the rain poured and the river roared. The river in full flood added substantially to the swim times forcing everyone into the left bank in the search of still water.  Inevitably there was pushing, shoving, smacking and banging in the cramped narrow channel. Who said swimming wasn't a contact sport?

 The turn at the top was a sprint as the water seemed to funnel in towards the marker making it extremely hard to round.

GTC aquathon series 2008 Race 3

 Another super race with 22 competitors with a few new club members also (welcome). the men's race was again won by Alan Mitchell with a super swim and the women's race by Eileen Sweeney with her two main rivals absent. Both Alan and Eileen are in pole position to win the series with 3 races to go and then the Grand Final Handicap in mid September. The weather held - just - but Chris Burke's bi-weekly catering was sorely missed.
