Race: Ironman New Zealand, Lake Taupo
Date: April 1, 2008

OK, it’s time I got the race report out. I figure I should probably give the full picture anyhow, before John posts his technical description of how to complete a sub 13:30 Ironman on essentially no training.

On March 1, John and I raced Ironman New Zealand after about five weeks of travel and some scattered training. I hadn’t initially planned to race IM, but thought it would be fun to be support ....

They said it was Ireland's toughest race, and they said it was the toughest half marathon around...and they were right. After a season of two sprint and two Olympic distance races, it was time to face up to Kenmare '07. Little did I know I'd have Batman for company ...

IM Acknowledgements

First let me thank everyone that helped me getting to the finish line of this race. It’s not a task undertaken lightly and impossible to do by one’s self.

Thanks to Siobhan for putting up with the cranky “Ironman in Training” for the year, and for the support at the race. Nothing but candlelit dinners and housework for me from now on.

Thanks to my Family for telling me I looked too skinny and force feeding me at ....

A six month journey of BPMs, KPHs, SPLs, LSDs, Cadence, Calories, Chlorine, Vaseline, Bodyglide, Bullfrog & a whole lot of emotionless sweat, pain & boredom, But my God, ooh my god, it was all worth it!!!

But before we get to the “Andrew Parkinson you are an …..” part, we have to go back to the start, a freezing cold morning in Jan, the New years eve’s vodka & red bull fest had finally drained f ....

The Kenmare half ironman is currently the only long distance triathlon held in Ireland.  This year's race had a shorter cycle than last year and a less demanding run course but was still a big undertaking, especially for those of us who were attempting it for the first time.  The 1.2 mile swim was fast on flat water with the help of a current but things got harder from there.  The 52 mile cycle included three big climbs to e ....

I know, I know, where's the race report? Well its here, finally a month and a bit after the race. We just had the small matter of getting married and then celebrating a fine honeymoon which sidelined any race reporting activity!

The Build-up:

Suffice to say there was none. We enjoyed our first week in California immensely, recovering from the trip over and the dreaded jet-lag while soaking up the atmosphere of San Francisco. We went for a couple ....
