| MULLAGHMORE 2010 |
With the sun screen plastered on, transition set up and race briefing announced we were good to go. Despite the gorgeous sunshine I was still apprehensive re the swim as rumours from previous years had me well warned of the "freezing water" conditions. However following a quick dip it was clear that there was no real need for the second hat - the water was beautiful. The women’s wave (2) got a countdown with plenty of welcoming cheers and support from the side line Dave included and we were off. The tide was way out so it was a real test of stamina as we plunged in high jumping all the way to practically the first buoy. As expected, Reilly had a fantastic swim joining the top five out of the water. Off came the orange hats and onto the bike. A quick few words were exchanged with Ruth as we exited and off she zoomed into the distance. To be fair it was a fairly nice course with the majority of it rolling hills however the head wind home proved difficult so I opted for a lazy ride having some friendly chats with fellow contestants! Heading on back to Mullaghmore the first of the guys were running home. Amongst them was our very own Mark O' Duffy with an impressive time to say the least of 1hr 03min followed by Phillip O'Connell 1hr 12min and Mark Samuels 1hr 14min. I was jealous as the run ahead was going to be difficult. Saying that the sea breeze kept us cool and the scenery was spectacular as we made our way around the head. The first 2k was challenging with the hills however after that it was possible to pick up on the speed. Reilly led the Galway girls’ home with a super time of 1hr 18min followed very closely by the lovely Ruth (1hr 19min) who had an impressive run. Chris was at the finish line (1hr 23min) with a smile and drink in hand for me (1hr 26min) and in a matter of minutes the rest of our crew crossed the finish line. There was a great turnout overall representing GTC for this popular event. Well done to all participants, I must say it was the most enjoyable and challenging sprint Tri to date for me...roll on next year!Special congratulations to Chris Burke and Ruth Lynch who both won individual prizes for their age group Below are the full results: Swim Bike Run Total Mark O’Duffy 0:11:00 0:32:34 0:18:03 1:03:47 Philip O'Connell 0:12:47 0:34:54 0:22:12 1:12:57 Mark Samuels 0:13:40 0:37:21 0:20:15 1:14:38 Reilly Dibner 0:12:23 0:38:12 0:24:12 1:18:22 Ruth Lynch 0:13:31 0:40:23 0:21:48 1:19:20 Donal McMoreland 0:16:41 0:39:53 0:19:14 1:19:24 David Bermingham 0:14:10 0:38:33 0:23:52 1:19:44 Stephen Cawley 0:17:06 0:40:45 0:22:59 1:23:32 Chris Burke 0:13:40 0:42:05 0:24:33 1:23:55 Alma Fleming 0:13:22 0:44:27 0:25:12 1:26:51 Catherine Dufficy 0:15:34 0:43:52 0:23:33 1:27:01 Martha Linnane 0:17:15 0:41:56 0:23:35 1:27:02 Barry Reddan 0:15:34 0:41:05 0:26:41 1:28:17 Garret Maher 0:14:55 0:43:19 0:27:47 1:30:21 Fiona Lyons 0:16:36 0:44:58 0:29:04 1:36:00 Julie Sheridan 0:17:12 0:47:17 0:27:08 1:36:56 Ailish O'Reilly 0:20:10 0:44:28 0:28:23 1:37:53 Sean Dinneen 0:31:47 0:42:06 0:23:56 1:42:56 Colette McGuinness 0:21:23 0:57:55 0:34:52 2:02:10
