2009 John Butler Sports Therapist Aquathon - Race 6

It was a heavy ‘close’ evening in Loughrea for race 6 of the Aquathon series. It would remind you of those days you often see in certain parts of the southern United States, sweaty and sticky, where they’ve got ‘gators’ lurking in the bayou. Little did Dermot Lowe and Owen Percy know as they left the water last night that there was indeed a ‘predator’ lurking in the water just behind them. And when Mairtin Grealish hit dry land he did to the 2 souls waiting on the bank, what real predators do, he devoured them, finishing a superb race in under 30 minutes. Mike Ryder made up the small gap on Percy on the run to eventually finish third.

Fiona Lyons put in a season’s best swim to lead the ladies from the water, but with neither herself nor Kristen Riall going out on the run it was left to Susie Mitchell to take her first aquathon win , in her first start no less. Susie was followed by Aoife Nash and Teresa Gannon to make it a superb night on the podium for the host club.

Well done to all 32 competitors last night, making it the biggest turnout so far this year, looking forward to seeing you all at the ‘two club finale’ next week in Dangan at 7pm.
