2009 John Butler Sports Therapist Aquathon - Race 5

A big thank you to all those from Predator who travelled through the weather and the horrible traffic to be with us last night for Race 5 of the Aquathon Series. A big turn out of 25 athletes braved the rain and the mud in the first joint club race in to be held in Dangan.

The men’s race was remarkable for one reason and one reason only. Dermot Lowe. While Owen Percy took advantage of the fact that Tony McNicholas was on volunteer duty last evening it must have been heartbreaking for him to see that Lowe can now almost match his impressive swim times. And continuing to reach for form from his long layoff Derek Murray continued his comeback with an impressive 3rd place. Damien Muldoon was first predator home with an impressive sub 40 minute jaunt for his first time out on the course.

Just like the men’s race the women’s star continues to be Tara Whyte who was followed home by rejuvenating Kristen Riall. The Handicapper will have his/her hands full at year end however when it comes to judging third placed lady Catherine Dufficy. This years newcomer is showing the benefits of her year’s training, losing almost 6 minutes in her early season time last evening. Teresa Gannon and Mary O’Donoghue forced a photo finish to be first Predator lady home.

Thanks to the volunteers last night Fiona, Tony, Keith and John but especially thank you to Brendan, Ed, Reilly, Richard as they answered the call for extra volunteers even though they are not partaking in the series and stood in the rain last night to make things run smoothly for the rest of us.

By the way, If any of you come across a woman trying to sell you gear out of the back of a car, report her to the gardai immediately, Although some of the stuff she sold ye looked pretty good on ye last night.
