Only 3 days after excellent performances in the gruelling triathlon Chonamara the husband and wife team of Tony and Barbra McNicholas took the honours in race 3 of the 2009 John Butler sports therapist aquathon series. Tony took a sizable 1:12 min lead out on to the run course which was more than enough to hold off the fresher legs of newcomer to the series Philip O’Connell. The addition of O’Connell and the return of Derek Murray from injury should intensify the competition in the series with 5 races still remaining. Barbra McNicholas must be delighted with her first win in the series. The Connemara native was down for volunteer duty on the night, but with ‘Arch rival‘ and series leader Tara Whyte doing the shoreside honours McNicholas seized her opportunity and coasted home without once looking over her shoulder. Next week the Series goes on the road to Loughrea lake where GTC will join forces with our neighbours in Predator Tri Club. The race will commence at the slightly later time of 7pm but be sure to arrive as early as possible to help with speedy race briefings/ course familiarisation. Hope to see a big crowd there to support the first ever 'away' aquathon. Name
